Frequently Asked Questions
Got questions? You’re not alone! Here are some of the questions we get asked frequently at Smudge Pot King.
Where do you ship, and how much will it cost?
We offer free shipping to the 48 contingent United States. However, there is an added fee for an order shipped to Alaska or Canada.
Can I use burned oil with a smudge pot?
That depends. It’s a great option for agricultural and industrial usage, but it’s not the best choice for campfires or residential use.
What fuels can I burn?
There are lots of options for your smudge pot. At Smudge Pot King, we generally recommend diesel, kerosene, cooking oil, or a good fuel alternative like Klean Heat. Of course, there should never be water in your fuel.
What heating radius can I expect?
You’ll enjoy a 15-foot heating radius with your smudge pot outdoor heater. This can vary slightly based on the fuel type, outside temperatures/conditions, and elevation.
When using for agricultural purposes where your goal is to keep the temp just above freezing, you can maximize use with a 20-30-foot radius.
How do I fill and refill the smudge pot with fuel?
Filling your smudge pot outdoor heater with fuel is easy. Simply remove the regulator cap and pour the fuel directly inside. Before refilling, you’ll need to ensure your smudge pot is off and has cooled. This requires you to close the regulator and lid at the top of the smudge pot stack. Cooling takes about 45 minutes. Removing the regulator cap and pouring in new fuel is then safe.
How long does the heat last?
This can vary. The outside temperature and conditions are well as how you adjust your regulator, elevation, and fuel type can impact this. As a rule, though, you’ll enjoy 1.5-2 hours of heating per gallon with two holes open on your regulator. If you fill it to capacity, you’ll get more than seven hours of use out of it at a time.
How much fuel does the smudge pot hold?
Smudge Pot King smudge pots hold 7-8 gallons of fuel.
