How Does a smudge pot work
Now that you know what a smudge pot is and are interested in making a purchase, you probably have other questions like, “How does a smudge pot work?” Fortunately, learning to use a smudge pot is very easy, and when used properly, smudge pots are extremely safe.
When you set up your smudge pot, you’ll notice that there is a regulator cap on top of the container for fuel. Remove this cap and pour in your preferred fuel type. Smudge pots can burn cooking oil, diesel, and kerosene. Next, open the lid on the chimney (top of the stack). From here, you’re ready to ignite the fuel with a grill gun, propane torch, or even a crumpled, ignited piece of paper. Place the regulator cap back on once the fire has started going. You can adjust the regulator cap to your heating preference. Always keep a close eye on the flame and your smudge pot to ensure that low-hanging branches or other unwanted fuel sources don’t come into contact with the flame.
An ignited smudge pot provides a great way to develop a warm, inviting atmosphere in your backyard or campground. The smoke will work to keep insects and pests away while you enjoy time with the people you love. Of course, a smudge pot also protects trees and other plants from frost, as it creates a heat blanket that regulates tree temperatures and allows for the best crop.
